It may take a few steps,  but logging (entering)  info about a phone call is easier when Viewing the Lead (or Opp or Account)

Log a Call from anywhere in the CRM

The CRM is designed to get data in as fast and easy as possible.  

So you have the ability to Log a Call  from anywhere in the CRM.

BUT you have to locate the Lead,  Contact,  Opportunity  etc.  as part of the process.
